What to Expect from DCG in 2024
With the 2024 Leaving Cert DCG paper fast approaching, we’ve analysed trends from 2020–2024, including deferred papers, to give you the most accurate predictions possible. Here’s everything you should focus on.
🔬 Section A – Core Topics (3 from 5)
Expect three core questions. Emphasis will likely be on surface geometry, axonometric drawing, and developments. These have strong past-paper frequency and visual drawing emphasis.
-
Surface Geometry: Especially cone and sphere interactions.
-
Developments: Likely to involve truncated cones or oblique solids.
-
Axonometric Projection: Often appears in Q1 or Q2. Be confident with inclined planes.
-
Intersecting Planes: Make sure you can handle line-line intersections.
-
Descriptive Geometry: Practice true length and angle questions.
✅ Pro Tip: Focus on graphs, real-life applications, and typical sources of error in each experiment.
🧠 Section B - Applied Graphics (5 from 9)
These will test your ability to apply principles in practical or real-world settings. Expect visualisation, perspective, and CAD-based graphics.
-
Perspective Drawing: 1-point and 2-point likely to appear.
-
Structural Forms: Industrial and architectural forms often assessed.
-
Dynamic Mechanisms: Linkages and cam systems have strong potential.
-
CAD Interpretation: Read orthographic to 3D translations.
-
Assemblies: High chance of exploded views or sequence-based tasks.
🔧 Be ready to
-
Interpret instructions precisely and show clean construction.

🧠 Frequently Asked Questions
-
How does the weekly grinds work?Step 1: Book a Session: Simply reserve your grind on this page. You'll then receive a Zoom invitation through email. Step 2: Attend Your Lesson: Join the weekly Zoom call for your one-hour session. Just bring a pen and paper.
-
How much does a class cost? The cost of each weekly class is €10. We aim to match you with a tutor that suits your needs. There are no additional fees.
-
Why should my child get online grinds? We’ve seen time and time again that tuition gives students better grades, subject-knowledge and even career opportunities. So now this option is fully available to you at a much more flexible rate, it’s silly not to make the most of it. Our students come from all walks of life — but all of them get exactly the same attention to improve their education.
-
What subjects and ages do you cover? We offer lessons in pretty much every subject on the Irish school curriculum. Our lessons are offered to students from Junior Certificate to Leaving Certificate.
-
When can I start lessons? You can start immediately! Just book a class using the calendar available on this page.
📄 Deferred Papers - Do They Matter?
Yes - and no. The SEC usually avoids repeating experiments year-to-year. But in 2023, two experiments from the 2023 deferred paper were reused in 2024.
Plus, the 2022 deferred paper had three overlaps with the 2023 paper.
👀 Watch this space: If the 2024 deferred paper is released soon, study it closely.
